T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO offers artists an opportunity to present and produce their work in an international forum on the urban stage of Tokyo. One of the festival's programs "STUDIO+ | Expanding Contemporary Photography" will be held in the common areas on the 2nd and 3rd floors of TODA BUILDING from Saturday, October 4th to Sunday, October 26th.
The exhibition, STUDIO+|Expanding Contemporary Photography, presents a new form of photography that transcends the flat surface of photographic paper, extending to illuminated screens and walls, corridors, terraces, and even tiny apertures and flow routes within architectural structures, and moreover resonates with the city itself. In the TODA BUILDING, the stage for this exhibition, the photographs are not confined to the gallery spaces; they flow into pathways and onto windowsills, emerging as part of the landscape and layering with the rhythm of the city. They invite viewers to rediscover places familiar to everyone with a fresh perspective and pose questions about existing architectural structures, awakening limitless possibilities lying dormant in the city. The three artists participating in this exhibition—Ludovic Sauvage (France), Momo Nakagawa (Japan), and Qingyu Tang (China)—present experimental forms of expression that traverse the boundaries of photography, video, and installation. Clothilde Morette, who served as chief curator of this exhibition, is the artistic director of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP), an international center for contemporary photography in Paris. The exhibition is a collaborative effort of T3 and STUDIO, a program to support emerging artists under the curatorial direction of Morette.
At moments when the city and photography intersect, how is our vision stirred? We invite you to experience this thrilling process of dramatic transformation.
